How client reviews grow your business for free

How client reviews grow your business for free

Oct 15, 2024

I’ve been thinking a lot about how I've grown my massage therapy business, and one of the best ways I’ve found to do that is by collecting and using client testimonials.

You know how powerful word-of-mouth can be, right? When someone hears about a great experience from a friend, they’re way more likely to try it out for themselves.

I know this might sound like a broken record-I've written about this a few times.

Here's the one about 10 Marketing Hacks.

But if your business is in a little slump and you don't want to pay for FB ads, let's talk about how to gather those glowing reviews and use them to attract more clients!

Why client testimonials matter

Think of how many Amazon reviews you've read before you bought something that's not even spendy. When potential clients see positive feedback from others, it helps them feel more confident in choosing you as their massage therapist.

And they're FREE marketing.

How to get those glowing reviews

1. Ask at the right time

Timing is everything. Sending out an "ask" the day after the appointment works well. They're still basking in the afterglow of the massage results, and it's fresh on their mind.

2. Make it so easy!

Keep it simple for your clients. You can send them a quick follow-up email with a few easy questions. Something like:

- What did you enjoy most about the massage?

- How did you feel afterward?

- Would you recommend me to others?

You can even offer the suggestion of how you want them to format their testimonial to make it easier and get the type of review that helps both you and future clients.

🔥 TIP

It can be as simple as:

After I got my massage from [your name], I [enter results]. (This could be something like: my golf game improved because my shoulder felt better, or I felt so at peace afterwards that I slept all night.)

This helped me [how].

I'd recommend [your name] to anyone who [has whatever problem you solve].

One of the ultimate easy hacks is to use a printed QR code on your reception desk. They can scan it and create a glowing review before they even leave your parking lot.

3. Use social media

Depends on your client base, of course. You'll need to know on which social they hang out!

Encourage your clients to tag your business in their posts or stories about their experience. It’s free advertising, and it feels more authentic when it comes from them.

4. Video rules

If you want something a bit more personal, ask if you can record a short video or audio clip of them sharing their experience. We're talking like a 30 seconds to a minute here. Most people love talking about something they enjoyed.

The more info you give them to make their life easier, the better!

🤳🏽Tell them to get good natural light in front of a window.

Side note. Many people aren't comfortable filming themselves. Of course tell them that a written review is totally fine too.

How to use testimonials in your marketing

Now that you’ve got some fantastic testimonials, it’s time to show them off! Here are some fun ways to incorporate them into your marketing:

1. On your website

Create a dedicated testimonials page on your website or feature them on your homepage. It’s a great way for potential clients to see what others think of your services right away.

2. Social Media Posts

Share client quotes or video testimonials on your social media platforms regularly. You could even create eye-catching graphics with their words!

Make sure the thumbnail piques interest! Here's one from a client and friend of mine who manages his Parkinson's symptoms with barefoot massage.

3. Email marketing

Include testimonials in your newsletters or promotional emails. It adds credibility and helps keep your current clients engaged.

4. Print materials

Do you display marketing materials? Add quotes to your business cards, brochures, posters, promo materials or flyers.

5. Google My Business

Encourage satisfied clients to leave reviews on your Google listing. This helps improve your visibility online and attracts new clients searching for massage therapists.

It's so easy, too. Just click on your Google listing (on the right) where it says "Get more reviews".

Under this, it shows your reviews. When the public clicks at the bottom, they'll see them all.

Even just a few reviews helps potential clients know what to expect.

Best practices for gathering testimonials

Before I wrap up, here are some quick tips for making the most of client testimonials:

🚨Get Permission:

Always ask if it’s okay to use their feedback publicly.

💕 Keep them authentic:

You can edit for clarity, but don’t over-edit; just fix any spelling issues. I always have to fix my name spelling. 🤣

♻️ Update reviews often:

Rotate testimonials so potential clients sees more than just the same ones.

My scheduling system, Bodywork Buddy, takes care of that for me.

😇 Highlight the benefits of your services:

Encourage clients to mention specific benefits they experienced.

So there you have it! Gathering and using client testimonials is an awesome way to boost your massage therapy business and build trust with potential clients.

Plus, sometimes, it's just a lovely affirmation that clients really DO love you and your skills. Without you, they wouldn't function as well.

Yeah, you're the bomb.
