What do you do when it feels like everything is going wrong in your business?
Ah, "Resistance".
When all the things go wrong. Maybe in life, maybe in business.
Could be a little bit of all of it.
😳 A flat tire on the way set up your massage booth at a farmer's market.
😳 Your kids suddenly have an urgent meeting at school when you're supposed to take a massage class out of town.
😳 Clients fall sick with something you definitely don't want, so you don't make as much money as you could/should.
There's a book I recommend that can help you work through the times when it feels like everything is falling apart.
Steven Pressfield's The War of Art.
Lemme tell you about what I've got going on and what my choices are. If nothing else, maybe you'll appreciate how well your week is going.
There's some new privacy law that makes you connect your website to your email service provider. Just login to Cloudflare and copy this, paste that.
In theory, this should make your emails to your clients more deliverable and not end up in the spam folder. (Have you had clients say they don't get their email reminders for their massage appointments? They're in the junk file.)
Strangely enough, I am getting way more spam delivered to my inbox than ever before.
Anywho, I haven't been able to email my list since February because the things just don't work like they're supposed to. To be fair, my husband and I haven't worked on it every day. I just have mental meltdowns when I tried to do it myself.
Massage therapists aren't too techy in general. I fall into that category.
This has been a great source of frustration. In full transparency, I've been wondering what the heck I'm even doing in the online massage coaching space when I can't even email.
Hello, imposter syndrome.
Well, my hubs got everything connected earlier this week. And then it unconnected.
Better yet, it took down my website with it.
As I write this, my Massage Momentum website and blog are technically live, but no one can see it. Not a great way way to help massage therapists and wellness practitioners.
After spending almost an hour video recording a class yesterday, the "save" failed.
What can I do?
Drinking is out, and so is drowning my face in a box of chocolates.
Do I give up? How can I keep going?
And what do YOU do when your business feels like it's falling apart, and you hear naysayers in your head saying things like:
"I knew you weren't meant to be in business for yourself. Who do you think you are?"
Let's refer back to that book.
Resistance is what stops you in your tracks.
"The War of Art emphasizes the resolve needed to recognize and overcome the obstacles of ambition and then effectively shows how to reach the highest level of creative discipline."
You do NOT give up.
Take a deep breath.
Go for a walk.
Get a massage.
Rinse and repeat as necessary.
And keep plugging away.
If your massage therapy practice is what you're meant to do, do it.
Sometimes business sucks.
You don't.
