The strength and spirit that makes you a successful Massage Therapist
I can hear Etta James bellowing soulfully...
πΆ "At last!"
My last blog post for you talented massage therapists was all about whatcha do when things go wrong.
Honestly, I was white knuckling it a bit. Nothing was going right.
Emails wouldn't go out.
Website went down.
Emails working.
Website up.
Rinse and repeat for a few cycles.
In full transparency, I wondered if it was the end for me as a massage coach. It's been a good run, after all.
20 years ago last month, I started training to teach massage therapists how to use their feet to massage.
The day I was about to throw in my towel, everything started working well.
Was it a sign?
I needed another, so I prayed. The word I received: "perseverance".
What can that mean to you as you build, grow, or just plain survive in your massage therapy practice?
My mom would say I was "as stubborn as a mule".
You'll stick with the challenges, day in and out.
Massage therapy can be physically demanding. Long hours on your feet, using repetitive motions, and applying pressure can take a toll on the body.
Perseverance means a massage therapist can push through fatigue or discomfort to deliver a good session.
It does NOT mean you should push so hard that you hurt yourself.
"Tenacity" can mean investigating new ways to hone your craft in a way that doesn't hurt you when you give massage.
You'll build a successful practice.
The massage field can be competitive. It's hard to "win the battle" with the big chains. You feel like you just can't come out on top here.
I promise that clients CAN tell they difference. You let the ones who don't want to or can't spend the money on massage go there. There are bigger fish to fry, and you're gonna find them.
Building a client base and running a successful business takes time and effort.
When you keep plodding along even when things are slow, you keep learning and improving your skills, and you keep finding ways to market.
Perseverance helps you as a massage therapist navigate the physical and business hurdles of your career.
Ultimately, massage therapist stick-to-it-iveness allows you to provide the best possible care for your clients.
And it creates your dream business life.
Oh, and when it comes to the ability to persevere, you can always use any of these delightful words to describe your tenacity to well-meaning friends or family members who may think it's time to throw in the towel:
βGrit
β Resilience
β Determination
β Dedication
β Fortitude
β Stamina
β Resolve
β Diligence
β Passion
